Famous Rebreanus in History

The Romanian Liviu Rebreanu was one of, if not the most, famous Rebreanus in history the world over. His amazing novels reflecting the popular and not-so-popular social issues of his time are known as some of the best produced during the Romanian interwar era. He also wrote plays, journals and short stories, which were accurate representations of comedy, drama, and yet again, social issues.
The life of Liviu Rebreanu
Born in Transylvania in 1885 to peasant parents, Rebreanu did not know comfort until his adult life. He married an actress named Fanny Radulescu, and remained loyal to her his entire life. In 1944, he was diagnosed with throat cancer, and was frightened of dying a slow and painful death. On September 1, just weeks before his 60th birthday, he took his own life.
Liviu Rebreanu's work
As a playwright, novelist, journalist and writer of short stories, Rebreanu left quite an extensive list of works, including the first modern Romanian novel, "Ion," in 1920. Each one of his works was intended to portray a message, though not all of them were political or social. His first play, "Cadrilul," or "The Quadrille," is a comedy written in four acts that pokes fun at some popular figures of the time.
Popular with the people and the upper echelons of the Romanian Academy alike, it comes as no surprise that Liviu Rebreanu is the famous founder of modern Romanian literature. His works provide historical and social insight about a period of time that was almost 100 years ago.
